There is a file sitting in most companies' Confluence. It is called something like “Competitive Landscape” or “Market Overview.” It has a last-edited date somewhere between twelve and twenty-four months ago. Someone spent two weeks building it. Nobody reads it anymore.
This is not a technology failure. It is an architecture failure. Companies treat competitive research like a tax return — something to file once a year, dread the process, then forget until it's due again. The output is a document. Documents decay.
